Lewisham Walking Forum
10 December 2002 Minutes:
Present: Jenny Budd (Lewisham Healthy
Walks) (minutes)
Aiden Cunningham (Green Chain Walk)
Paul Holdsworth (Living Streets)
Howard Lillie (Age Concern)
Marion Wood (Resident, Tarleton Woods Assoc)
Outcomes of discussion at meeting
- Proposal that the Lewisham Walking Forum
(LWF) becomes a local branch of the Living Streets organisation. Many benefits
of this include
- Increased involvement of local residents
- Increased understanding of range of walking
issues
- Support of branch development officer
- Give national spread - publications,
newsletter for branches, research issues, briefing sheets, magazine
- Seminars and training days
- Speakers for meetings
- Work with Living Streets officers
- DIY community street audit packs
- Local street audits with support of Living
Streets
- Charitable status
- Start-up grant £50
- 20% of local Living Street members subs
LWF would need 2 or 3 members to act as
treasurer, chair etc
Some concern about affiliating too closely.
However it would not stop other local groups being established. It would not
compromise independence. Great emphasis on partnership working.
1. Important to get Street Leaders involved. Sam
Kirk is main contact
2. That the LWF co-ordinate and promote a
weekend of walking activities as a way to launch and promote the LWF. To be
held in late spring to coincide with 'Walk to School' week (19 - 23 May)
3. At present we are a steering group as a
precursor to the establishment of the LWF. We are 'primarily organising a
late Spring event of walking activities with the long term aim of establishing
a group that makes Lewisham a walkable community / neighbourhood'.
4. Agreed to do:
Howard - to write to Age Concern groups
Jenny - Contact 'Safer Routes to Schools',
Glendale, Editor of Lewisham Life, those not here today
Marion - talk to Sam Kirk
Aiden - to contact walk groups
Paul - to talk to David Early Branch Dev officer
Living Streets
