Present: Aidan Cunningham, John Warner, Marion
Wood, Barrie Anderson, Anne Bennett, Jenny Budd(minutes), Paul Holdsworth,
Conrad Young, Gail Allen

I. The walking festival will take
place 17/18 May which is the weekend before the 'Walk to School' Week. We are
bidding for funds from TfL. This will determine the scale of the festival and
whether we can employ someone to co-ordinate it. Several walks already agreed
as well as Town Centre activities including art activities for children on a
theme of road safety involving the road safety team and Living Streets
demonstrating changes to Lewisham Town Centre. All suggestions for
walks/activities welcome.
II.Objectives of the Walking
Forum:
(a)Jenny has done a presentation on setting up a
local walking forum at the TfL launch of the draft London Walking
Strategy/Walking Partnership meeting. She drew out 5 objectives for the walking
forum from the inaugural meeting discussion groups.
(b) Paul drafted a document to send to TfL with
regards a funding bid. This included core objectives.
From these two draft objectives the group
decided the objectives of the Walking Forum.
OBJECTIVES
- <1.>To raise people's awareness and
increase the profile of walking in London Borough of Lewisham
- <2.>To promote the social,
environmental and health benefits of walking in London Borough of Lewisham
- <3.>To increase levels of walking in
London Borough of Lewisham
- <4.>To campaign to make walking in
London Borough of Lewisham safe, easy and enjoyable
- <5.>To produce and share publicity
and information about walking issues, options for walking, walk routes groups
and places in London Borough of Lewisham and the wider London area
- <6.>To involve many people,
organisations and public bodies
The Strapline "Walking makes you feel good
" was agreed.
III. Cllr Barrie Anderson stated that he
had recently attended a meeting at the House of Commons regarding walking and
that walking is on the Creative Lewisham agenda.
IV. Proposal to become a local branch of
Living Streets.
This was agreed following much discussion. There
was some concern about lack of autonomy. The standard constitution of a local
branch was studied (previously circulated). It was thought that this needed
more discussion at the next meeting. Jenny to contact David Early (local branch
development officer) about the next step.
V. Paul Holdworth's presentation
regarding the changes to Lewisham roundabout. Due to lack of time this item
will be carried over to a future meeting. |
